NARRATIVE
The narrative we will use to discuss intersectionality is the film, Hidden Figures.Copies of the film are available in the college's library, or you can rent or stream it.
If you have already seen the film, be sure to watch it again. If you were not watching it the first time with an intersectional lens, then you will most likely not have caught all of the intersectional issues and nuances in the film.
Where do we see intersectionality
in the film?
Which intersectional populations are represented in the film? (Hint: There are four, and two get a lot of screen time while the other two less.) How are they represented? How do their intersectional identities affect them?
Focus on:
- How race and gender intersect
- How people are addressed
- The bathroom situation
