Assignment Specifications
Create a 5-8 minute, narrated, PowerPoint presentation.Be sure all of your text is easy to read. Your voice should be clear, confident, and not distorted by static. You need to communicate both verbally (through written and spoken words) and non-verbally through images, music, etc. Your narration needs to be written out in the "Notes" portion of the presentation with your source material cited.
Identify at least two scenes in which Tiana's intersectional identity is not recognized, causing the representation of the character and her narrative to be inaccurate. Analyze the problems with each scene. Then suggest ways Disney could have remedied them while still keeping it appropriate for their target audience. In other words, how would you remake those scenes to make them accurate but still child appropriate? Be sure to do some research into the setting (time and place) of the narrative to have a clear understanding of the barriers Tiana would have faced.
What are the possible negative effects of the inaccurate portrayal of the intersectional character? Remember, this is Disney's first black princess. Do some research on the public's reaction to support your assessment.
