1. Identify the predominant intersectional identities in the film that include race and gender (hint: there are four).
2. Which intersectional identity had the most privilege and power? How were they treated, and why? How did they treat others, and why? (Give specific examples.)
3. Which intersectional identity had the least privilege and power? What barriers do they face? Why? (Do a little historical research). How were they treated, and why? How did they treat others, and why? (Give specific examples.)
4. There are two female intersectional identities. What is the same in the way they are treated at NASA? What is different in the way they are treated at NASA? How do they treat each other? Why do you think these dynamics exist? (Give specific examples.)
5. Do you think these intersectional identities still have such a discrepancy in privilege and power? Why or why not? Give examples from current happenings.

INTERSECTIONALITY: Discussion #2
In the assigned chapters, "Women at Work" and "Race and Gender," bell hooks does not use the term intersectionality, but she does discuss the need for recognizing intersectional issues and barriers. She specifically focuses on the problems the lack of intersectionalilty has caused in the women's movement.
1. In "Women at Work," which intersection(s) does hooks discuss? Give an example, from the text, of a problem the lack of awareness or consideration for that intersection has caused? How does hooks propose to fix it?
2. In "Race and Gender" which intersection(s) does hooks discuss? (That might be a tough question to answer 😉? Give an example, from the text, of a problem the lack of awareness or consideration for that intersection has caused? How does hooks propose to fix it?
3. Give an example from your own experiences when an intersection of identity presented a unique barrier to you or someone you know. Why or how do you think that barrier was created? How was it handled? How might it have been different for a different intersectional identity? Why?
4. All of you are going into health care or human services fields. How do you think being aware of intersectionality can help you in your future career? Give a hypothetical example.
5. Find a news story, online, that demonstrates the lack of intersectional awareness. Share the link to the story. Why do you think there was a lack of intersectional awareness? How could the story have been different if an intersectional approach had been taken?
